200W 30 Ohm Resistor – Resistor for pre-charging large inverters
This 200W 30 Ohm resistor is suitable for pre-charging large inverters in 48V systems.
Why do I need to pre-charge my inverter?
When an inverter or inverter/charger of 2000W or higher is connected for the first time to a battery bank a large inrush current occurs. This will cause a substantial spark between the battery terminal and connecting cable which could be dangerous. In addition to the safety risk, this inrush current can result in the inverters capacitors not being fully charged and the inverter not being fully functional.
Thankfully there is an easy installation step to remove this risk and ensure no spark or safety risk occurs when connecting your inverter. You only need to do this before first use or if the inverter has been disconnected from the battery bank for a long period of time.
How to pre-charge your inverter
- Connect the inverter positive and negative cables to the busbar or Lynx distributor.
- Connect the battery positive cable to the busbar and battery. Then connect the negative cable to the busbar but not to the battery.
- Wrap the resistor wires around the negative cable lug and the negative battery terminal. Hold in place for 10 seconds and remove.
- You can now safely connect the negative terminal to the battery.
