MultiPlus & electric hook up kits

Electric hook up lets you easily recharge your leisure batteries when on a campsite or at home. Our MultiPlus and electric hook up kits contain everything you need to fully install one within your campervan electrical system.

Our electric hook up kits

We have a range of 240V electric hook up kits available. These either utilise a MultiPlus inverter/charger, a battery charger or simply a consumer unit and hook up inlet. Below we explain exactly what’s included in our kits, the difference between each type, and how to decide which one is right for you. Alternatively, you can browse all of our available kits here.

MultiPlus kits

MultiPlus kits allow you to install a Victron MultiPlus inverter/charger as part of your campervan electrical system. A MultiPlus is an inverter and battery charger in one product. As well as charging your leisure batteries when connected to hook up, you can power 240V appliances when off-grid. As soon as you connect to hook up, your batteries will automatically charge and any 240V appliances will be powered directly from the hook up, bypassing the inverter.

All of our MultiPlus kits include everything you need to fully connect the charger to your system. So, as well as the inverter/charger, it all contains consumer units, an electric hook up inlet and cables, as well as all cables, lugs, fuses and fuse holders. Simply select the size MultiPlus you need, and then choose any variables such as inlet type and smart functionality.

Not only that, but all of our kits come with a free sub-system wiring diagram and installation guide. This explains exactly how to connect all the components, as well as how to correctly configure the settings. So, you can be confident in installing your system yourself.

What size MultiPlus do I need?

When deciding which MultiPlus is right for you, you need to consider two factors. Firstly, what size inverter do you need to power your 240V appliances? Secondly, what size battery charger is suitable to recharge your battery bank?

To correctly size the inverter in your MultiPlus, read our article: What size inverter do I need for my campervan? Additionally, our Victron MultiPlus page explains how to size the battery charger. Once you’re confident which MultiPlus you need, you can pick the right option from our kits.

What does a MultiPlus kit typically include?

Our kits include every single component you need to fully install the subsystem within your campervan electrical system. So, as well as the main component, all cable, lugs, fuses, etc. are also included.

There are some variables to choose from on our kits. For example, if you will connect to busbars or a Lynx Distributor – this will affect the required fuses for your system. So, there will be some variation between kits. The below show’s an example of what’s included in the 500VA MultiPlus kit with certain variables selected.

240V electric hook up kits

Campervan 240V hook up kits are very basic. When connected to shore power, you can power any 240V appliances. As soon as you disconnect from the hook up, you will only be able to power 12V appliances. Additionally, some kits include a battery charger. In this instance your leisure batteries will also charge when you’re connected to hook up.

Our campervan electric hook up kits include everything you need to power 240V appliances when you’re on a campsite. So, they contain an electric hook up inlet and cable, a consumer unit, as well as all cables and lugs required. Some kits also include a battery charger. In this instance you can select the battery charger you need, and then choose any variables such as inlet type and number of plug sockets.

Not only that, but all of our kits come with a free sub-system wiring diagram and installation guide. This explains exactly how to connect all the components, as well as how to correctly configure the settings. So, you can be confident in installing your system yourself.

What size battery charger do I need?

If you choose a 240V hook up kit that includes a battery charger, make sure it’s suitable for your battery bank. If you have an AGM or lead acid battery bank, you can only recharge at 10-20% of its total capacity per hour.

For example, a 100Ah battery bank can only be recharged a maximum of 20A/hr. Any quicker than this and you will greatly reduce the lifespan of the batteries. For lithium batteries, you can recharge at 50% of their total capacity per hour. So for a 100Ah battery bank, you can recharge at 50A/hr. A charger smaller than this will just recharge the battery bank slower.

To work out how long your battery bank will take to recharge, divide the usable capacity (50% for lead acid, ~80% for AGM, ~95% for lithium) by the battery charger rating.

So, for a 100Ah AGM battery, the usable capacity would be 80Ah. If you had a 20A charger, this would take around 4 hours to fully recharge the battery bank.

It’s worth noting that this number is only an estimate. The final 20% of the battery (recharging from 80% to 100%) takes much longer as it has to be charged in a specific way. So this portion will take longer to charge than the rest of the battery.
