Harry, Technical Manager
Harry is Nohma’s Technical Manager, combining a background in physics with years of hands-on experience designing off-grid systems, developing electrical solutions, and writing technical content. Since joining the company over three years ago as a content writer, he has played a key role in helping Nohma design over 10,000 electrical systems.
Growing up, Harry always had an interest in engineering and the outdoors. Two years spent sailing the South Pacific on a small yacht with his family first showed him the potential of off-grid living and inspired him to pursue a campervan conversion project. Days spent exploring islands and sailing his dinghy instilled a love of adventure that eventually led to buying a van with his partner to embark on a new off-grid journey.
This van conversion project gave Harry first-hand experience of the challenges involved in powering an off-grid campervan, and how the pace, location, and seasonality of a trip can require very different approaches to electrical system design.
Harry graduated from the University of York with first-class honours in Physics with Astrophysics. During his degree, he developed a strong interest in electronics and control systems, culminating in a final-year satellite attitude control project using Arduino-actuated reaction wheels. Alongside his studies, he flew with the Yorkshire Universities Air Squadron and spent much of his spare time climbing and exploring the UK outdoors.
As Nohma’s Technical Manager, my work has been a fusion of my physics background and my passion for life on the road. This nomadic work style has given me the flexibility to balance my career and camper conversion.
Harry Flaherty, Technical Manager
Today, Harry leads technical operations at Nohma, managing development projects across the business, helping define how electrical systems are designed, and providing technical support to the wider team.
Outside of work, Harry continues to enjoy travelling in his campervan, climbing, cooking, and surfing. A recent ski trip saw him living out of his van in the Alps, while his wider travels across Europe and the UK have taken him to countless climbing and surf destinations. He enjoys cooking with fresh, seasonal produce and especially likes the challenge of creating meals from whatever happens to be left in the cupboard or fridge.
