150W Semi-Flexible Solar Panel (Narrow) – Monocrystalline Panel
This highly durable 150W semi-flexible solar panel is reinforced with fibreglass plastic and a strong ETFE surface and made from monocrystalline solar cells. This high efficiency 150W solar panel is perfect for permanent outdoor use to provide free electricity for charging 12V batteries to power various applications, such as in a motorhome, caravan, camper, boat, or for solar lighting systems, off-grid, and back up solar power systems. The panel can also be used to provide direct power supply for applications not sensitive to changes in input voltage / current (e.g. electric motors or pumps) and for various grid-tie applications.
Fibreglass reinforcement and strong ETFE coating:
In addition to the fibreglass reinforcement, the surface of this 150W semi-flexible solar panel is made of strong ETFE material which has a longer service life compared to standard semi-flexible solar panels. As a result, these particular semi-flexible solar panels are extremely hard-wearing and less prone to cracking , delamination and corrosion. The lightly textured coating of this panel creates an anti-reflective surface which allows the panel to absorb a far greater amount of light, thereby increasing efficiency. ETFE material has long been used in applications where durability and high-temperature resistance is required, such as in the Eden Project, Cornwall.
High quality 5-busbar solar cells:
This panel also features innovative 5 busbar solar cells, which are more efficient than the 2, 3 or 4 busbar solar cells used in most other solar panels, and are able to extract more power from the same surface area. This results in a smaller overall solar panel, which is ideal for applications where space is limited. These solar cells are also the best choice for applications in warmer climates, as they operate well even in high ambient temperatures.
All-black design:
This solar panel has a unique black backing, making this solar panel ideal for discreet and aesthetically pleasing installation on dark coloured roofs, vehicles or mounting surfaces. Please note that this solar panel is not ‘ultra jet-black’ – the exact hue may vary marginally from panel to panel, depending on the batch of solar cells.
Other benefits:
- Robust construction using plastic reinforced with glass fibre creates a sturdy and durable solar panel
- Unique narrow shape is ideal for applications where space is restricted, or where there are obstructions on the roof (only 51cm wide)
- Special textured surface significantly reduces light reflection and improves performance in low light and cloudy conditions
- Black backing makes the solar panel ideal for discreet and aesthetically pleasing installation on dark coloured roofs, vehicles or mounting surfaces
- Highly flexible design makes this panel ideal for curved roofs and surfaces where bonding is preferable (though it can also be fixed by bolts or screws)
- The panel is incredibly light (only 2.55 kg) which is great for all vehicles
- High resistance to salt water environments makes it perfect for boats and marine applications
- Sealed waterproof design ensures the panel can be used in all weather conditions.
The panel is fitted with 2 x 1m of cable specially designed for solar panels to carry high currents with negligible power loss (4mm² cross section). The cable comes with waterproof MC4 connectors which can be used for easy connectivity to your existing system or for linking several panels together.
When used in a campervan setting, we would recommend a minimum solar array of 200W. This will ensure that you are able to generate enough solar power even in winter or cloudier days. An open circuit voltage of 15V or higher is required to charge your system, so we would recommend wiring your solar panels in series to achieve a higher total system voltage.
Solar panel mounting options
Flexible solar panels must be mounted using silicone structural adhesive on the backside of the panel. Grommets should only to be used for non-mobile applications.
Solar charge controllers
Once you’ve decided on the size of your solar array, make sure you find the correct solar charge controller! You can calculate your maximum open circuit voltage by adding together the voltages of each of your panels (if wired in series). Your maximum open circuit current will remain the same (when wired in series). Victron charge controllers are sized based on these 2 numbers – e.g. the 100/30 charge controller is suitable for an open circuit voltage up to 100V and an open circuit current up to 30A.
