455W Solar Panel Kit – Includes Victron MPPT, 455W rigid JA solar panel & all required components
This 12V 455W solar panel kit includes everything you need to wire a 455W solar array and a 100/30 MPPT charge controller as part of your campervan electrical system. It includes:
- 455W JA Solar panel
- Required DC cable, cable lugs & fuses
- PV isolator switch
- Scanstrut cable seal
Plus, pick from the following variables:
- Charge controller – pick from the 100/30 SmartSolar or the 100/30 BlueSolar (non-smart)
- Victron solar cable length – select the distance between your solar panels and your charge controller
- Solar panel brackets – select glued brackets or screwed brackets
455W solar panel kit
Our solar panel kits include everything you need to connect a solar array to your electrical system. We include all cabling, fuses, cable lugs, etc., as well as a number of optional extras to enhance the system.
This kit includes one JA Solar 455W solar panel. This a monocrystalline solar panel with a Voc of 53.87V and an Isc of 10.56A. This higher Voc will make charging on cloudy days or during winter much more viable. Find out more on our solar panel guidebook page.
The 100/30 charge controller is suitable for the supplied solar panels. You can pick from the SmartSolar or the BlueSolar (non-smart) version.
The DC cable gauge is specced on the distance between the charge controller and your busbars being no longer than 1.5m each way (3m ‘there and back again’ length). If your charge controller will be further away than this, please contact us via the ‘modify this kit’ section abovew so we can provide a system proposal with the correct cable gauge.
We include a PV isolator switch in every kit. This allows you to easily isolate the subsystem from the rest of your electrical system.
We include a Scanstrut horizontal double-entry cable seal with each kit. Scanstrut make rugged and weatherproof entry glands which provide a sealed and secure entry point into your van for the solar panel cables.
We use Victron solar cable to connect the solar panels to the charge controller. Select the distance between your solar panels and charge controller, and we will supply a cable twice as long. This is then cut in half to create 2x cables with an MC4 connector at one end and wire at the other end.
Select from either glued or screwed solar panel brackets, and we’ll include the correct quantity for the solar panels in the kit. If you select screwed brackets, we’ll include well nuts to form a watertight connection. The well nut included is an M5 well nut, provided with a rubber washer and a BZP 25mm allan bolt.
Select whether you will use busbars or a Lynx Distributor to connect your subsystems to your batteries. Please note that the busbars / Lynx Distributor are not included in this kit, however by selecting what you are using in your system, we can ensure we include the required fuses and fuse holders.
Wiring diagram & installation guidance
We supply all of our kits with a subsystem wiring diagram and installation guidance. This includes information on setting up the charge controller correctly using the rotary switch and the VictronConnect app (if a SmartSolar charge controller is selected). So, you can install your system easily and be confident it’s installed correctly. If you need any support during the installation, contact us and we can provide additional support.

455W solar array – use case
A 455W solar array is suitable for a medium-sized off-grid electrical system, such as in a campervan with medium power usage. For example, a 455W solar array would fully recharge a 300Ah AGM battery bank (3 x 100Ah batteries) from 20%-100% in ~10 hours on a sunny summer’s day.

I took the plunge and ordered from climbingvan based on some excellent help I’d received about prepping my installation ready for solar. Even though the prices for the kit I’d chosen were higher than elsewhere, I believed it was worth it to get a kit with full bespoke instructions. Unfortunately, that’s where the warm fuzzy feeling ended. Having installed a solar system on a Campervan before, I was expecting a bit more. The first delivery was so damaged in transit it was returned to the supplier by the courier. The second one eventually turned up a week later, and was so badly packaged on a pallet that was falling apart that I have very little faith in whether the panel will last or even work (I have yet to install it). Add to that the generic wiring diagram’s, a pv switch that didn’t have the components expected (I got a refund for that and have had to source my own), so the whole kit thing goes out the window. Overall I’m doubting some of the cabling spec as being up to the job and having a nightmare sourcing a switch that actually turns up with the components. Trouble is a third party supplier is used so there is no quality control over anything that actually goes out the door as far as I can tell. I had a hard time convincing the company there was something wrong with the switch. So I’m afraid to say great help initially but left to my own devices now the kits turned up and no comment on when I queried the panels mode of transport and it’s possible damage. I don’t like leaving negative reviews but feel there are definite improvements that need to be made.

Hi Louise, I’m very sorry to hear that you weren’t happy with the kit you received from us. Unfortunately how a package is handled by the courier is beyond our control, however a new order was dispatched to you due to the state the original package was received in.
The wiring diagram you received is a bespoke wiring diagram to the specific kit you ordered, with an overview wiring diagram showing the entire system, detailed instructions how how to connect each individual part of the system (the charge controller, as well as internal wiring for the switch), and also guidance on how to set up the settings for the components. I’m honestly not sure how we could have provided more detail than what was already supplied.
Both myself and my colleague Molly exchanged a number of emails with yourself, and we happily refunded you for the switch as you weren’t happy with the one supplied. We also provided additional advice and guidance on the installation, so we’re very disappointed to hear that you feel you were left to your own devices once the kit turned up.
Once again, we’re very sorry that you weren’t happy with our service, as we strive to offer a very high level of support. Best of luck with your install.
