Double pole MCB – 10A or 16A

£14.95

A miniature circuit breaker (MCB) protects your electrical system from overloads caused by short circuits. If an overcurrent is detected, the MCB trips and breaks the circuit. An essential component for a safe electrical system incorporating AC power.

  • Choose between 3 amperage ratings: 10A or 16A
  • C-curve operation is perfectly suited to campervan electrical systems
  • Double pole operation breaks all live circuits, in accordance with UK safety regulations

    Double pole MCB – 10A or 16A

A miniature circuit breaker (MCB) protects your electrical system from overloads caused by short circuits. If an overcurrent is detected, the MCB trips and breaks the circuit. If you use AC power in your campervan, either from an inverter or shore power, you need an MCB for a safe electrical system.

    What do the specifications mean?

    • Amperage rating – the MCB will trip and break your AC circuit when more than the amperage rating (either 10A or 16A) passes through it. In a 230V system, this means that you can draw up to 2300W with the 10A version or 3680W with the 16A version.
    • C-curve – This means that the MCB will trip between five and ten times the rated current. Households tend to have a mix of B (which trip quicker) and C curve MCBs, to protect various appliances. As there are fewer plugs and usually only a few MCBs in a van, it’s common to only use C curve MCBs. This is perfectly safe and suitable for a range of applications within your campervan, from protecting lighting circuits to more intensive equipment such as air conditioning units or kitchen appliances.
    • Double pole – British standards require that MCBs “break all live conductors”. As live and neutral wires are both live, a campervan should have double pole MCBs which break both conductors in a short circuit.

    MCB installation

As with any electrical component, we recommend that an MCB installation should be performed by a qualified electrician. For guidance on your MCB installation including consumer unit wiring diagram, check out our electric hook up guidebook page.
