The Victron BatteryProtect is designed to protect a leisure battery in an electrical system. It disconnects the battery from non-essential loads before it is completely discharged, which would damage the battery. The BatteryProtect is not designed for reverse currents from charging sources.

Battery Protect – use cases

We usually include a Battery Protect between the 12V fuse box and the leisure battery. It can be programmed to stop power going to the 12V loads when the battery reaches a certain state of charge. This protects the leisure battery from irreversible damage by being discharged too deeply. Where many components such as inverters have built-in settings to prevent battery discharge below a certain point, this is not possible for the 12V loads which is why a Battery Protect can be useful between the 12V fuse box and the batteries.

Easily programmable

The BatteryProtect can be set to engage or disengage at several different voltages to protect your leisure batteries from damage.

There is also a special setting for lithium batteries. If you have a system with a Victron Smart lithium battery, the BatteryProtect can be controlled by the VE.Bus BMS.

We would recommend installing the Smart Battery Protect, as this is easy to setup using the VictronConnect App, which can be downloaded from the app store on Android or iOS devices.

Delayed alarm and load disconnect

The alarm output is activated if the battery voltage drops below the preset disconnect level. The load will be disconnected 90 seconds after the alarm has been activated. If the battery voltage increases again to the connect threshold within this time period (after the engine has been started for example), the load will not be disconnected.

The load will be reconnected 30 seconds after the battery voltage has increased to more than the preset reconnect voltage.
