The Victron Orion-Tr 12/24-15 isolated battery to battery charger (sometimes referred to as a B2B or DC-DC charger) intelligently and safely charges your leisure batteries from your vehicle’s starter battery whilst driving. As modern vehicles use smart alternators, you can’t use a basic VSR in any vehicle with a Euro 5/6 engine. The Orion-Tr Smart B2B is simple to install and simply requires access to the vehicle’s starter battery.

The 15A model charges the leisure battery at a rate of 15A. It converts 12V power to 24V, meaning it can charge a 24V starter or accessory battery in an otherwise 12V system. This model has an adjustable output voltage range of 20V-30V. You can connect an unlimited number of this model in parallel to increase output power.

Isolation

Isolated DC-DC chargers are suitable for systems grounded to a negative bus bar.

Smart functionality

The Victron Orion Smart DC-DC chargers have built-in Bluetooth, allowing you to connect wirelessly to the VictronConnect App (downloadable from the Play store on Android and the App Store on iOS). You can monitor and program the unit via Bluetooth, and remotely control it via a remote on/off switch. It also has an engine running detection mechanism.

Screw terminal connection points

This DC-DC charger has Tr screw terminal connection points. So, you will need to strip your input and output wires of a short length of insulation to fix them to the terminal.

Battery to battery charger – use cases

It’s not possible to use a basic VSR in vehicles with a smart alternator (Euro 5 and above). The same goes for systems with a lithium leisure battery. You will therefore need a battery to battery charger in these instances. We also recommend B2B chargers as they can safely charge your leisure battery to 100% with the ‘absorption’ phase. VSRs don’t have this feature.

For use in dual battery systems in vehicles or on boats, where the (smart) alternator and the starter battery charge the service battery.

You can use the Orion Tr-Smart charger for both lead-acid and lithium batteries. Models are available up to 400W, and unlimited units can be connected in parallel to increase output power.

Suitable for high temperatures up to 55°C with a full rated output up to 40°C.
