The Victron Orion XS 12/12-70A DC-DC battery charger is a non-isolated battery to battery charger. This is sometimes referred to as a B2B or DC-DC charger. They redefine adaptive DC-DC charging. For use in dual battery systems charged with an (intelligent) alternator.

The Victron Orion XS 12/12-70A DC-DC battery charger serves as a DC-DC battery charger or as a power supply, offering a wide input and output voltage range. This is especially significant in the case of vehicles with a Euro 5 or Euro 6 smart alternator. In this case, it often supplies too low charging voltage even when the engine is running or when extended cable lengths, as is often the case in boats and RVs, lead to voltage drops. In such scenarios, precise and controlled charging is imperative to fully charge the service battery while protecting the starter/input battery from discharge.

Smart functionality
The Victron Orion XS 12/12-70A DC-DC battery chargers have built-in Bluetooth, allowing you to connect wirelessly to the VictronConnect App (downloadable from the Play store on Android and the App Store on iOS).
You can monitor and program the unit via Bluetooth, and remotely control it via a remote on/off switch. It also has an engine running detection mechanism.
Screw terminal connection points
The Victron Orion XS Battery Charger 70A has screw terminal connection points. So, you will need to strip your wires of a short length of insulation to fix them to the screwed terminal. The Orion XS 70a also has Integrated TORK-KRIMP® technology which means when using ferrules no pre-crimping is required.
Victron Orion XS 12/12-70A DC-DC Battery Charger – use cases
It's not possible to use a basic VSR in vehicles with a smart alternator (Euro 5 and above). The same goes for systems with a lithium leisure battery. You will therefore need a battery to battery charger in these instances. We also recommend B2B chargers as they can safely charge your leisure battery to 100% with the 'absorption' phase. VSRs don't have this feature.
For use in dual battery systems in vehicles or on boats, where the (smart) alternator and the starter battery charge the service battery.
You can use the Victron Orion XS Smart BuckBoost charger for both lead-acid and lithium batteries. This model is 100W, and unlimited units can be connected in parallel to increase output power.
Suitable for high temperatures up to 55°C (131°F) with a full rated output up to 40°C (104°F).
