Introducing: The new Victron Lithium NG range
We’re excited to announce the arrival of Victron’s Next Generation (NG) Lithium Battery lineup, featuring advanced Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) technology. Building upon the success of the Lithium Smart Series which it will supersede, the NG series is available in 12, 24 and 48V, with the new range providing improved monitoring, scalability, and durability.
Key features of the Victron NG Lithium batteries
Multiple improvements including added read-out of cell voltages and temperatures
Each battery in the NG range is equipped with an integrated shunt for accurate monitoring of voltage, current, and temperature. Paired with the mandatory Battery Management System (BMS), it ensures real-time tracking and safe operation. The VictronConnect App, GX communication center, or VRM Portal provides seamless access to system data and configuration.
Smart Scalability
Victron NG batteries offer flexibility and scalability for differing needs. Whether you need a single battery or a modular solution, this range is designed to grow with your system. The maximum single bank size has increased to 385kWh.
Protection class IP65
These batteries feature a high IP rating for resistance to dust and water, making them ideal for rugged environments. Their low self-discharge rate of just 2% per month ensures long-term performance, even during periods of inactivity.
Easy Installation
With built-in mounting brackets, installation is secure and straightforward, saving time and effort during setup.
The new Victron Lynx Smart BMS NG
The new Lynx Smart Battery Management System (BMS) NG must be purchased separately for compatibility with these batteries. It is designed specifically for use with the Victron Lithium NG range, which includes 12.8V, 25.6V, and 51.2V battery modules. There are two options within the Lynx Smart BMS NG series: a 500A version and a 1000A version. Both offering robust battery management capabilities and safety features.
These systems are ideal for applications requiring high energy storage and scalability, with the ability to manage up to 50 batteries, enabling systems with capacities of up to 384kWh, depending on the configuration.
Key features of the Lynx Smart BMS NG
- Built-in 500A or 1000A contactor for safety and as a remote-controlled system switch.
- Battery monitoring functions, providing real-time data such as state of charge (SoC) and alerts via Bluetooth or through the VictronConnect app.
- Pre-alarm signals that warn of potential low voltage situations to prevent system shutdown.
- Integration with Victron's GX devices (e.g., Cerbo GX) for local and remote monitoring, allowing you to access your battery's data from anywhere via the VRM portal.
- Compatibility with the Lynx M10 busbar system, allowing for seamless connection and integration with other Victron products.
What size battery do I need?
The amount of electricity you use directly correlates to the size of the battery bank and type of batteries you require, so you need to work out your expected use. To do this, make a list of all the appliances you will use in your van, and calculate the amp hours for each appliance using the equation:
Watts ÷ volts = amp hours
Once you have calculated the amp hours for each product, you will need to multiply by the usage (the total hours the appliance will be in use for each day):
Ah x usage (hrs) = Ah/day
Add up the Ah/day of each product to calculate your total daily usage.
You should ensure you have a big enough battery bank to last for at least two days at your daily power usage without charging. If you plan to spend time off-grid and are relying on solar power, you may want to ensure you have enough for 3 to 4 days without charging your batteries for worst case scenarios.
