TN Power provide a good combination value vs performance for AGM batteries. They are especially designed for deep cycle applications and have an impressive cycle life of 600 cycles at 80% DOD.

TN Power AGM batteries are suitable for off-grid applications where deep discharging is required, but weight and size are not an issue. They are a maintenance-free VRLA battery, so there’s no need to add water or acid during application.

The TN Power 100Ah AGM battery weighs 26kg and has M8 threaded connection posts.

Lifespan of TN Power AGM deep cycle leisure batteries

• 80% DoD – 600 cycles
• 70% DoD – 700 cycles
• 50% DoD – 1100 cycles

This means that an AGM leisure battery specced to provide 3 full days of power based on your daily power usage, when used every day (i.e. in full-time usage applications) will have a lifespan of around 2-3 years. In this setting, we would recommend that in this instance, you only regularly discharge your battery by up to 60%.

When used in part-time applications, such as in a campervan used for holidays, it will have a lifespan of around 8-10 years. For comparison, a lithium leisure battery of the same specification with full-time usage will have a lifespan of 15-20 years.

AGM leisure batteries – use cases

AGM leisure batteries can be regularly deeply discharged by up to ~60-80% of their total capacity (depending on how often you plan on using them). This means that a large portion of the battery’s capacity can be accessed. The lower price point of AGM batteries, along with the fact that they are maintenance-free, makes them suitable for many off-grid applications.

For full-time applications where the battery will be in use every day, and where weight and space are important factors, it can be a good idea to consider lithium batteries. These days, lithium batteries are a similar cost to AGM batteries, so these are a good alternative for most campervan and off-grid settings.
