LiFePO4 (lithium-iron-phosphate) batteries have incredible power density and longevity, making them perfect for off-grid applications where weight and lifespan are key factors. The Victron Smart lithium leisure batteries have built-in Bluetooth, allowing for wireless monitoring and control.

The Victron 200Ah LiFePO4 battery weighs 20kg and has M8 threaded connection posts.

The 12.8V Victron lithium batteries consist of 4 cells connected in series.

Lifespan of Victron LiFePO4 batteries

• 80% DoD – 2500 cycles
• 70% DoD – 3000 cycles
• 50% DoD – 5000 cycles

This means that a lithium leisure battery specced to provide 3 full days of power based on your daily power usage, when used every day (i.e. in full-time usage applications) will have a lifespan of around 15-20 years. For comparison, an AGM leisure battery of the same specification and usage will have a lifespan of around 3-4 years.

Lithium leisure batteries – use cases

Lithium leisure batteries can be deeply discharged by over 90% of their total capacity. This means that the vast majority of the battery’s capacity can be accessed. The power density of lithium batteries means that they are over 50% lighter and smaller than their lead-acid counterparts. These attributes combine to make lithium batteries perfect for off-grid applications where weight and space is a key consideration, such as campervans and boats.

Lithium leisure batteries are ideal for anyone with regular full-time usage such as living on a narrowboat or full-time van lifers, as their long lifespan means they will not need to be replaced after a short number of years like a lead-acid battery.

Smart functionality

The Victron LiFePO4 Smart batteries have built-in Bluetooth, allowing you to wirelessly monitor cell voltages, temperature and alarm statuses using the VictronConnect app.

External BMS

The Victron Lithium Smart batteries require an external BMS. If you have a system with a VE.Bus connection such as a MultiPlus, you will need the VE.Bus BMS and the corresponding RJ45 cables. Otherwise, you will need the SmallBMS.
