Jack’s Mercedes Sprinter

Outdoor enthusiast Jack swapped costly hotels for freedom on the road, transforming a 2014 Sprinter into a fully equipped home on wheels.

Adventure lover Jack spends as much time as possible exploring the mountains and countryside. Fed up with expensive hotels that never quite met his needs, he decided to build a van that offered all the comfort and convenience of home. Whilst having the freedom to travel wherever he liked. Jack’s 2014 long wheelbase Sprinter may have started life delivering furniture, but after a full self-build and a custom Nohma electrical system, it’s now the perfect adventure companion.

What inspired the design of your van?

I bought my 2014 LWB Sprinter from a guy who used to deliver furniture. The bodywork was pretty rough, but it had low mileage and was completely rust free, the perfect blank canvas. I love the outdoors and travel a lot. After too many nights in overpriced hotels that never quite had what I wanted, I decided to build something better.

I wanted all the comforts of home: a full size double bed, a warm shower, proper heating, an air fryer, Xbox, TV, cold beer, and hot food. Basically, everything I enjoy at home, just on wheels.

Building a van always takes longer than you expect and costs more than you plan for. The biggest challenge was figuring out where to put everything and in what order to build it. My biggest tip for anyone starting a conversion is to spend several weeks just planning. Sketching layouts, researching other people’s designs, and mapping out the build process before lifting a single tool.

Why did you choose to use Nohma?

The electrical side of things was definitely the most daunting part for me. Before speaking to Nohma, I had no idea what components I’d need or how they worked. I knew what I wanted to run, but not how to make it all come together safely.

The best part about working with Nohma was being able to tell them exactly what I wanted, and having them come back with a detailed breakdown and clear explanation of what I needed, plus options to suit my setup. They price matched everything, and most importantly, supplied the correct gauge wire, lug connectors, and every fitting I needed to build the system properly.

The instruction guide was straightforward and easy to follow, and when it came to the nerve wracking moment of switching the system on for the first time, a Nohma engineer joined me on a video call to walk me through the process. That made a huge difference, what could’ve been terrifying was smooth and simple thanks to their help.

I honestly can’t recommend Nohma enough. The service was perfect from start to finish, and I can’t imagine how complicated or time-consuming it would’ve been to try and piece a system like mine together alone.

Tell us about your ideal van day

My favourite days are the ones spent hiking up mountains, then coming back to the van for a hot shower, cooking a nice meal, and relaxing in front of the TV or playing some Xbox. That’s exactly what I wanted when I started this project, comfort, convenience, and independence wherever I go.

It’s got everything I need, it’s more comfortable than most hotels, and the peace of mind knowing the electrics are done properly is priceless.
